The game activation error when launching from Battlelog has been fixed in the latest Origin Beta. Here are the steps to install it.
Works for both BF4 and BFHL, tested with Chrome and FireFox.

Good news as don’t like the UI app thingy.
Tested and works with Opera as well

After doing the above, I was 2 mins into the game when Origin closed the game and said it need to install a priority update.
Updated, now it's back to the "Activation required" crap.
Edit* - Don't untick "Participate in Origin client betas" once it works.. :*

They released new patch and BATTLELOG join problem is now completely fixed.
You can join from battlelog as before even if you don't do anything without updating origin.
