Yeah it kind of didn't take much skill.
The philosophy that there should be "better weapons that are harder to use" is what's happening in counterstrike. There's four guns in that game. The Deagle if you need a pistol, the AK-47 if you're a terrorist, the M4 (and its variant) if you're a CT and the AWP if you want to snipe. The "power for difficulty" tradeoff greatly limits variety.
It's a different thing in MOBAs: every hero is viable. Some are harder to use, but all are powerful and useful if used correctly. Same now applies to BF4's guns.
